So... I'm still a bit hazy on the details, but suffice to say, the world has been royally destroyed.

Sephiroth... he... no, I can't really say I'm surprised.

*Cough, Cough*

My health is... how best to put this?  Lacking.  It's hard to breathe here.

*Wheeze*

Hard to see, too.  Chime and I... we're getting out of here.  When she saw Sephiroth bringing down the sky, as it were, something in her seems to have been rattled loose... On a deeply mental level.  I'm worried that if we don't get out of here soon, I'll lose her, completely.  I wonder how Mira's doing, but I don't particularly care at the moment.  We're... going to find a portal to another universe... before it's too late.

Our old weapons managed to not be completely destroyed, so we fastened some makeshift improvements on them using the debris of what used to be our house.

Who knows where the portals are?  That's what we're going to figure out.  Something like that couldn't be completely gone.  It doesn't matter... whichever world we go to, it'll be better than this one.

Goodbye, everyone.  It's been... Unreal.

THE FINALS!

teamblank

The widely-anticipated game between two of the top teams from the last league was an amazing show!  Anyone who missed it doesn't know how great a game they skipped.  What coulda been more important than this?  Nothing, that's what!  It was amazing!  Who won - the slightly favored Loveless, or the luck-shunned Dark Knights who were just barely edged out of the top three for the last league?

Right from the beginning, Noctis grabbed the ball and blasted a shot at the goal, but Lightning intercepted it and took her own shot, which was grabbed by Garland, who threw a pass that was intersected by Sabin, who quickly tossed it straight back at him before wrestling it out of his hands to throw another pass.  Garland was having none of it, though, and grabbed the ball back and went for a shot.  It was insane!  The two went on like that for another minute, with Sabin taking a desperate shot, too, before Genesis finally got in on the action.  Garland, however, is a damn-good defender, and handled the double-team well.  The rest of the players simply watched in awe for quite a while before Genesis finally broke out of the tangle, received Sabin's pass and forwarded it to Lightning.  Amazingly, however, Garland was able to catch up in time to take her shot out of mid-air (erm, water...)!  He flipped the ball to Seifer, who was in position to blast the ball at Loveless's goal.  Vivi was all about it, though, having not dropped off asleep while the action took place across the field.

After Vivi dished the ball over to Cecil, a sequence of passes and shots ensued.  Lightning took a shot, which was grabbed by Garland, who broke out of her attack and went for his own shot, which Vivi again had to knock down.  Cecil took the ball again, and sent it over to Sabin, who looked like he was in the clear before MoogleKupo came from out of nowhere and got in the struggle.  He had apparently been taking lessons from Garland, because he single-handedly took on Sabin and Cecil for quite some time before perpetual 50%-player (did she get injured somewhere along the line or something?) Tifa finally got in position to help him out.  The ball went to her and she chucked it down the pitch to Garland, who tried again to blast a shot at Vivi.  Vivi handled the direct shot easily though, and the competetive struggle came to a close for the half.

That's right, folks.  The half ended with a tie, 0-0.  Old-time champion Rusty won the halftime pool for 47GP!  Congratulations!  Looks like that betting paid off!

And now, for the second half!  Who emerged the victor in this very-evenly matched game?

Well, right off the bat, Genesis got the ball to Lightning, who spun past Seifer and sent a direct shot at Llednar, who hadn't touched the ball a single time in the first half.  The self-proclaimed 'invincible' Llednar lived up to his name and blocked Lightning's direct shot, which is no little feat!

Noctis got hold of the ball, only to become embroiled in a struggle with Cecil.  However, Tifa and MoogleKupo came to his aid and Tifa came out of the clash in perfect position to take another shot at the Vivi.  Vivi was a little flustered, but he handled himself well and got the ball to Cecil, who immediately engaged with MoogleKupo in a grabbing match.  Genesis eventually got into the conflict, but took an elbow to the head and retreated while MoogleKupo continued against Cecil.  Cecil eventually got the ball to Sabin, but Sabin just passed it back and the fight continued.  Finally, MoogleKupo got the ball to Noctis, who sent it to Seifer, who broke through Lightning and made a shot!

...Except Vivi still managed to catch it!  The crowd was roaring, and you could tell it was getting to Vivi, who seemed upset that his team's offense wasn't holding up its part of the deal.  Finally, Loveless took somewhat of an offensive and the ball got over to Cecil, who took another shot at TDK's goal.  Llednar was true to form, however, and kept the ball out.

Loveless seemed totally demoralized after that failed attempt, but the defense kept up the intensity.  Cecil and Noctis traded shots to nowhere before Tifa wrested the ball from Cecil and sent it to Noctis, who darted toward the goal as time began running out.  The ball left Noctis as the buzzer started, which caught Vivi's attention long enough for the ball to sail past him.  At the final second of the game, Noctis scored the winning goal!

And THAT's IT, everyone!  At 1-0, The Dark Knights snatched victory from the seemingly flawless Loveless and won!

Congratulations to both teams for a well-fought match!  You both deserve major accolades for kicking major ass!

As a closing note, the Betting Pool winner was Hojo!  Congrats, you creepy man, you!  The payoff of 78GP is yours!  All that money you bet away is pretty much back!  Aren't you lucky!

The Odds...

teamblank
Betting's going to be a bit different this time around.  I'm going to start with base odds, and then give betting odds for point margins based on those odds.  This is what you'll be betting on.  Good luck everyone!

The next four games are going to be underway soon, and here is the breakdown:

Shootin' Blanks [105]
------------VS.--------------
Sublimely Magnificent 7 [156]

Sublimely Magnificent 7 gave the Shootin' Blanks a 3 to 1 thrashing early in the league season, but the Shootin' Blanks have proven their resilience, being a game-changer late in the season with an underdog victory over The Dark Knights.  They have a solid goalie in Zorn, but will he be enough to stop the downright Onslaught that is Jecht?  We shall see.  As of now, SB's odds of winning are:

 2:1

The Shootin' Blanks have a good chance of scoring some goals against SM7, who also have a solid chance of returnig the favor.  Here are the odds:

SM7 by 5 - 6:1
SM7 by 4 - 4:1
SM7 by 3 - 3:1
SM7 by 2 - 2:1
SM7 by 1 - 1:1 (Null)
Tie Game - 3:2
SB by 1 - 2:1
SB by 2 - 4:1
SB by 3 - 7:1
SB by 4 - 11:1
SB by 5 - 16:1

What's it gonna be?  Place your wagers now!

The Dark Knights [146]
------------VS.--------------
The Maniacs [122]

Historically, The Dark Knights have two wins over The Maniacs in their previous meetings.  Both have middling goalies and relatively equal strikers.  However, The Dark Knights have a well-rounded defense, while The Maniacs look like they could fall apart at any time if things don't go their way.  All in all, that leaves the odds against The Maniacs at these odds:

3:1

Scorewise, if The Maniacs want to keep pace with TDK, their goalie will have to be impeccable.  What do you think?  Here's the odds!

TDK by 4 - 8:1
TDK by 3 - 5:1
TDK by 2 - 2:1
TDK by 1 - 3:1
TIE Game - 5:2
MAN by 1 - 3:1
MAN by 2 - 4:1
MAN by 3 - 7:1
MAN by 4 - 12:1

Loveless [153]
------------VS.--------------
The Tonberrians [156]

A classic rematch will be featured on Friday between the first and second-place finishers of last season.  Genesis has gotten his team fired up and is trying to quiet the rumors of his coming departure from the mall.  Mira's team always plays fierce and is looking to finally earn a win over Loveless, who seem to be the one insurmountable opponent for them.  Little has changed on the two teams since they tied in the final round of the league.  It could go either way.  Algorhythmically speaking, The Tonberrians have a slight (the key word being slight) edge, making the odds against Loveless:

 10:9

Vivi and Verdot were the top two goalies in the league.  In the two matches these teams have played, one goal was scored - by Loveless.  Will we see a repeat of that game, or will the Tonberrians pull ahead?  The defenses of the two teams are pretty evenly matched, although The Tonberrians appear to have a more rounded offense than Loveless.  That being said, the odds are:

TON by 4 - 14:1
TON by 3 - 10:1
TON by 2 - 6:1
TON by 1 - 2:1
TIE Game - 1:1 (Null)
LOV by 1 - 3:2
LOV by 2 - 7:1
LOV by 3 - 11:1
LOV by 4 - 15:1

This is gonna be a good one, people!

SeeD Speed [115]
------------VS.--------------
The Mad Experiments [54]

As with the last match up between SeeD Speed and The Jenova Project, this game could really to either team.  The Mad Experiments can be formidable when the ball spins their way, but SeeD Speed is a consistent team.  Firion will have to be at the top of his game in order to help The Mad Experiments get the better of this match, but as it is, the odds against TME are:

 3:2

Both teams seem to be lower on the skill-scale than others, with obvious weaknesses in a few areas.  However, they both have good potential to make a game of it.  How do you think it'll turn out?

SeeD by 4 - 8:1
SeeD by 3 - 6:1
SeeD by 2 - 4:1
SeeD by 1 - 2:1
TIE Game - 3:2
EXP by 1 - 4:3
EXP by 2 - 5:1
EXP by 3 - 8:1
EXP by 4 - 11:1

Please place your bets below (OOC: In character!)  List the amount you're betting and your remaining GP.  Best of luck!

------------------

Additionally, don't forget about the Blitzball pools!  I'm going to update them soon, (OOC: but I've been pretty busy), but keep putting in money for better rewards!

Lastly, if the margin goes beyond what's there (say, EXP by 5...), the award will go to the closest scenario (aka, EXP by 4 is really 4 or 4< ... Feel free to object.)

Blitzball Pool Update...

teamblank

So, in the midst of all this chaos, I'd like to remind you that time is running out to bet on the first round of games!  Furthermore, the Blitzball pools still have plenty of spaces, so take a look here and let me know what squares you'd like to buy!

*Note, I just added my first purchases, leaving me with 95 GP*

Blitzball Pools!

teamblank
Alright, so, in addition to betting on individual teams, you will also be able to partake in the big gamble: The Blitzball pool!

For those of you who don't know how Pool bets are made, I will explain things now:

In a pool, you choose (a) random square(s) to buy on a grid numbered 1 to 10 vertically and horizontally.  Each square costs 1GP, and there are a total of 100 squares.  The squares haven't been assigned numbers yet, but once the bets have all been placed, they will be determined by dice roll.  Every combination (from 0 and 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/0 to 9 and 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/0) will correspond to one square.  If the square you've purchased matches the score in the game, you will win a great deal of GP!

It's probably easier if you just look at the grid I've prepared for you:
Bet Away!

Pick as many squares as you can afford and hope for the best!

The payoff will be as follows:

For each of the two semi-final games, the person who has the winning square at the half will win 30% of the total GP bet on the blitzball pool.  The person with the winning square at the half will win 50%!  This means your 1GP bet could net you 30 or 50 GP if every square is filled!  The remaining GP will go into a bonus for the championship game!

For the championship game, the person with the winning square at the half will win 40% of the total GP from the pool, plus 6% of the bonus GP.  The person with the final score's square will win 60% of the GP, plus 14% of the bonus GP!  This means that if all three pools are full-up, the halftime winner's 1GP square will net him 46GP, and the final winner's 1GP square will net him 74GP!  Wahoo!  That's some great payoff!

To bet (in character - make each player separate, please!), first indicate which game you are betting on (Semi-1, Semi-2, or Final), then list the coordinates of your bets (D-5, K-11, etc.).  After that, list your remaining GP.  Keep in mind, you may buy as many squares as you want, but be considerate of other players (AKA - don't buy all the squares right away!)

To make it fair, you can only buy 5 squares per game per day.  That way, everyone will have a chance to buy the squares they want.  Remember, the numbers you end up with are all chance anyway, so it might not matter anyway, but play smart and respectfully!

Best of luck, everyone!

Bets Aplenty!

teamblank
Hopefully, I've come up with a decent way to determine odds, and this is it: Looking at the previous league play, I've attributed points based on team record: 20 for wins, 10 for ties, and 3 for losses.  The distribution actually follows team order pretty faithfully.  For each team that competes, I will list the base points in brackets and then explain final odds underneath.  Odds will be affected by the history between the two teams and goalie rankings, as well, perhaps, as other things.

The first four games are going to be underway soon, and here is the breakdown:

The Defenders of Gaia [119]
------------VS.--------------
Sublimely Magnificent 7 [156]

Sublimely Magnificent 7 has won the two meetings with the Defenders, 3 to 0 and - more recently - 8 to 1.  Clasko is not exactly the most impressive goalie in the business, but neither is Ultros.  However, due to the overwhelming force driving SM7, the odds against The Defenders are:

 5:1

This means that a 1GP bet for The Defenders to win would net you 5GP.  How about it?  Think they'll pull an upset?

The Dark Knights [146]
------------VS.--------------
The Mercenaries [75]

Historically, these teams went 1 for 2, with a 6 to 4 victory by the Mercs in their first meeting, but a 3 to 0 shutout revenge by TDK in their more recent meeting.  Their goalies are both in the middle of the pack.  It's a tossup, but going by more recent records, the odds against The Mercenaries are:

 5:2

This means that a winning 2GP bet for The Mercenaries would net you 5GP.  Do you think the Mercenaries can beat the odds?

Loveless [153]
------------VS.--------------
The Guild [95]

The Loveless may very well be the team to beat.  They trounced The Guild in the past meeting, 5 to 1.  Their Goalie, Vivi, has always been one of the top players in his position.  Dr. Cid is, on the other hand, statistically one of the worst... This leaves The Guild with the task of overcoming these monumental odds:

 24:1

This means that a 1GP bet for The Guild would net you 24GP if they won.  Is that even possible?

SeeD Speed [115]
------------VS.--------------
The Jenova Project [51]

This is probably the hardest game to call - it's really a toss-up on who will win, but we can still analyze things in this way: TJP has had a tough string of games recently, and Jenova hasn't proven to be the best goalie (though not the worst, either).  SeeD Speed's goalie, Yuna, is of roughly the same build as Zorn, who proved to be one of the better goalies in the league.  Historically, The Jenova Project obliterated SeeD Speed in their one meeting, 5 to 0.  Nonetheless, more recent trends leave the odds against The Jenova Project at:

 3:2

This means that a winning 2GP bet for The Jenova Project would net you 3GP.  Is the minor payoff worth the risk?

Please place your bets below (OOC: In character!)  List the amount you're betting and your remaining GP.  Best of luck!

------------------

Additionally, information about The Blitzball Pool will be placed in the following post.  It will only apply to the semi-finals and the championship game, but it is another exciting opportunity to win money!

(OOC: If there are any suggestions as to how to improve the system, let me know - it seems pretty good right now...)
